Chris Thompson was one of the driving forces of St. Martin’s Theatre in Melbourne having been mentored by the legendary Irene Mitchell and eventually taking the role of the company’s Artistic Director.
Having trained at Deakin University and the Victorian College of the Arts, Chris was a highly regarded playwright, screenwriter, educator, director and mentor to young people with an interest in the theatre. His plays were nominated five times for an AWGIE award, winning three times.
One time President of the Green Room Awards, Artistic Director of St. Martin’s Youth Arts Centre, Hothouse Theatre and Jigsaw Theatre, Chris was passionate about the arts and about education. Chris will be sorely missed by all who came in contact with him and who were inspired by his passion and knowledge.
