Ron Field, 7 October 1925 – 20 January 2025
Ron came to Australia from England in 1949 and worked as a Stage Director with the Arrow Theatre straight away; 1950-52. Then came the Union Repertory Company, 1952-55, The Elizabethan Trust, 1955-58 and then became Manager of the Union Theatre, University of Melbourne, in 1959. He became Administrator of The Union until 1984. He retired and moved to Swan Hill with his family, and became involved with the Swan Hill Theatre Group as Producer and Director, working on thirty-four productions from 1985 until 2008, which included fifteen musicals, sixteen plays and three pantomimes.
Ron was involved in the very first production of The Summer of the Seventeenth Doll in 1955 which began a lifelong friendship with its writer, Ray Lawler. In 2005 he produced and directed the fiftieth anniversary production of the play in Swan Hill, aged eighty.
