Emeritus Professor Richard Fotheringham
We’re delighted to announce our forthcoming event with Richard Fotheringham on 28 July at the Seaborn, Broughton & Walford Foundation in partnership with Theatre Heritage Australia.
Jenny Howard and Joy Nichols: A Londoner who starred here ("Australia's Vera Lynn") and "Australia's Judy Garland" who starred in London.
Richard has recently completed a study of the vaudeville singer Jenny Howard (1902-1996) who was a huge star for the Australian Tivoli circuit during World War Two and for decades after. He also noticed reports at the time of the career of Joy Nichols, a child star in Sydney in the War years who went on to become a spectacular success on stage and radio in the UK in the decade after - but who seemed to have been almost completely forgotten since.
Richard Fotheringham is a former actor and playwright and now Emeritus Professor of Theatre History at the University of Queensland.
Join us at 2.30pm at SB&W on 28 July 2024 for The Stage on Sunday, a joint program with the Foundation and Theatre Heritage Australia.
All are welcome. This event is free but bookings are essential and must be made through SB&W.
